Williston State College DISTANCE EDUCATION DIRECTOR
SUMMARY The Distance Education Director will provide leadership, vision, and direction for distance education by serving as an academic support unit in the Instructional Division. The director will bear primary responsibility for researching and promoting new distance education programs and courses as well as coordinating quality assurance measures in collaboration with the Vice President for Instruction, Academic and Workforce Deans, and Department Chairs. The duties of the director include managing the overall program, supervising instruction, and communicating with stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES Management of Distance Education Program • Conducts research, develops, implements, and promotes new programs/courses • Creates, implements, reviews policies • Assists in accreditation at state and regional levels: NDUS & HLC • Leads faculty and staff in strategic planning for each unit and program area • Provides leadership for developing and managing extended services • Develops and manages budget, grants, technical support, and other services for distance education • Ensures prompt responses to concerns
Management of Distance Education Instruction • Manages scheduling of IVN, online, hybrid, and other off-campus instruction • Promotes standards that result in excellent programs • Conducts faculty/course evaluations focused on quality assurance, student satisfaction and success, and retention • Oversees hiring and evaluating of faculty and staff in distance education • Ensures compliance with licensing & copyright laws and registrations • Develops and delivers training, support, and communication policies for/with faculty
Management of Distance Education Communication • Works collaboratively with NDUS, private, tribal colleges • Participates in state meetings • Initiate and manage collaborative opportunities • Manages data, creates reports for stakeholders • Communicates effectively with students, faculty, public • Assists in troubleshooting

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Knowledge of a variety of distance learning modalities • Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, student services, or other related field • Experience teaching at the university/college level • Administrative experience in higher education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Master’s degree in a related field • Experience in faculty training • Experience in instructional design, curriculum development and assessment • Understanding of college distance education programs • Expertise in student-centered distance learning practices • Ability to coordinate disparate groups to achieve a goal • Commitment to life-long learning
